Beginnings EFT Emotional Freedom Techniques

New Beginnings

There is something really exciting about new beginnings.  They are full of hope and promise, with an expectation that things will be better than they were before.

From a very young age we are told stories that begin with “Once upon a time…” We learn that these words signal that an exciting new adventure will follow. There is a sense of anticipation at the beginning, a hint of good things to come.

I feel a great sense of optimism at the beginning of something. There is nothing like a fresh start, a blank page or screen, a clean slate.  I get a feeling that anything is possible in this moment.

New beginnings can be also be a time of uncertainty, because we don’t know what’s coming next. They are great opportunities for personal growth, but they can also be very stressful.  As human beings we can be quite resistant to change even though we know that it is an inevitable part of life.

These turning points in our lives can also be an opportunity to sit back and reflect on what has happened before and to make changes for the future, to look at new ways of doing things and to not make the same mistakes (opportunities for learning) again.

Winter Solstice

We have just come through our Winter Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere on the 21 June.  Pagans celebrated the longest night of the year by throwing anything they didn’t want into a huge bonfire and embracing a new start.  They were superstitious and stayed up all night to ensure that the sun did indeed rise the next day, and when it did was cause for much gratitude and celebration.

Turning Points

I have recently been creating my own timeline and it has been a very interesting experience to look back and reflect on my life.  I can see that the major turning points are the new beginnings, and they are the times that are memorable and special.  Whether it was starting school, new relationships, getting a new pet, starting university, starting a new job, the beginning of a trip, moving house, having my own baby, all these major events have been life altering experiences for me.

School, University
I still remember the day I started school, my mixed feelings about being in this strange new place, and later on changing schools and going to high school, then university.  These all marked major turning points in my life.

I get a sense of anticipation at the beginning of new relationships, whether it is meeting a new friend, and looking forward to getting to know them better, or the beginning of a romantic relationship, where everything is exciting and new and  I feel full of hope for the future.

New life still fills me with wonder and awe.  A bud of a flower, the first blossoms in spring, and baby animals are so beautiful and full of joy.

There is nothing like setting off on a new adventure. I remember the excitement of going to live in London and traveling around Europe, hiking through the Samaria Gorge in Crete, sailing around the Greek Islands, walking around the canals in Venice and seeing the Eiffel Tower for the first time.

Moving House
I have moved house quite a lot in my adult life and each time I do I see it as an opportunity for a fresh start. I do a major clear out of anything I no longer need before I move to my new home. I have found a lot of new opportunities have come my way when I move.

There is something so pure and fresh about new born babies at the beginning of their life. There is limitless potential within this tiny new being.  They have their whole life ahead of them.

Having my own baby was the most incredible experience, and I remember coming home from the hospital with Nicholas feeling in every part of my being – this is why I am here!  I knew this was the beginning of the most important thing I’d ever done.

When two people get married I feel that same sense of expectation that this couple is at the beginning of a new stage of their life together and I feel privileged to be present at that ceremony, optimistic about what their future will hold.

Losing hope along the way

As we go through life things happen and we can become less hopeful.  Or maybe other people have taught us that we have limitations.

We can end up with beliefs and memories that prevent us from realising our full potential.  Things that happen to us in childhood and other life experiences can cause us to doubt our true worth and to settle for a less than exciting life – perhaps we are even living someone else’s dream.

Tapping for new beginnings

What I love about tapping is although it doesn’t erase a negative experience, it can take the emotional charge out of it. It becomes just something that happened and you can move on with your life and not keep looking back to the past.  You can enjoy the present and look forward to the future.

This brilliant quote is attributed to the American writer, Carl Bard:

“Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.”

At any moment we can choose to release the past and to start again with renewed hope

Tapping is an opportunity to get rid of the baggage and start afresh whatever stage of life you are at – it’s never too late to rekindle that lost hope and optimism that was there at your beginning.
